Shoreline Aquatics Facility Concept and Early Schematic Design
Helping shape the future of Shoreline's new aquatics programing.
Miller Hayashi, in partnership with aquatics design specialists MJMA provided a pre-design and early schematic design services for a new community aquatics facility to replace the former Shoreline Pool that closed in 2020. The project is planned as an aquatics-only community hub. It is designed to serve residents of all ages and abilities and fill a significant gap in Shoreline's recreation offerings.
Our scope covers site planning, functional and technical programming, and concept design. Flexible basin configurations, including lap, leisure, and therapy pool options were explored alongside universal changerooms and inclusive access strategies. Sustainability performance, operations modeling, and long-range cost planning are integrated throughout.
The site presents a compelling design opportunity within the City’s Town Center Plan, requiring careful navigation of zoning standards, stormwater management, and an environmentally sensitive area on the project parcel. A structured community engagement campaign includes: Community Advisory Committee sessions, a public open house, and online engagement, ensuring a broad range of community voices shape the design direction.
