Magnuson Park Beach Shelter

Nodding to history within Seattle’s second-largest public park.

The design of the replacement building for the Magnuson Park Beach Comfort Station and Lifeguard Shelter marks the legacy of the park as a Navy Airfield with a slender, wing-like structure parallel to the shore and access road. A continuous metal-clad surface forms both wall and roof projecting towards the water’s edge and forming a gateway to the swimming beach. This singular gesture distinguishes the building and lends grace to rugged durable materials. The new beach shelter comprises of showers, comfort station, concessions window and lifeguard support facilities.
